TikTok is undoubtedly the king of algorithms! Many have described the platform’s algorithm as ‘magic’ - but did you know it traps you in one specific location?

TikTok’s algorithm allows you to discover what content you like, what content you might like, and what content is being produced near your geographical location! That last one is particularly interesting, as it implies that any content you create will also be tied to a particular location! But how does TikTok do this? And can you surpass this? 

Let’s just cut to the chase. As soon as you create your account, TikTok identifies your location and uses it to promote your content to the right individuals. This, however, creates an issue. Not every brand wants to market to its local audience! Imagine you're marketing skis but you're located in the midst of a desert — that's horrible for business!

2. Engage with your target location!

This requires you to do a little bit of research into what’s trending in the location you’re targeting, and getting into the minds of the audience is of primal importance. Participate in trends in the area you're trying to target, interact with the influencers there, and make sure their followers find your content fun and interesting to watch!

The bottom line here is to make sure that your content is tailored to the audience you want to reach. It is impossible to create your own style and hope it will reach the right audience without a large following. Make sure you study your viewers and make sure they enjoy what they’re watching.
